HISTORY AND PRESENT
Although there are no vocational arts & media schools in the Nazareth region, although there is a worldwide market for the drawings, paintings, ceramics, sculpture, jewelry, beading and knitting that the Ethiopian artisans have been creating for centuries.
This country has a wealth of natural resources and raw materials supplies, which can be obtained in the surrounding rural kebeles of Nazareth like Ketchema, Adulala Mariam and Sire Robi, which make it an ideal place for young artists to be trained in design and craftsmanship. Most of all, the greatest resource of any country is its children.
There are qualified teachers and administrators who are enthusiastic about this project and who are looking forward to join mame center. Volunteers will also be welcomed to share their expertise in our program.
MAME MERESSA, who gave children hope and courage
mame center is in honor of Mame Meressa, a life-long advocate for children in Nazareth who provided shelter and nourishment to children in need. She gave hope and encouragement to them, and believed that the development of one's own creativity is the key to a happy and prosperous life.
The cause of mame center is to expand Mame's work by continuing to build on the natural talents of these children, encouraging their creative, social and marketing skills.
Every successful student will serve an example to others that hardship can be overcome, and that persistent effort is the key to a useful and abundant life. The pilot project will eventually be replicated in other places.
Mame Meressa wishes to see a society where children enjoy their basic rights.
